2026 syllabus - Piano
- Piano classes are open to amateur competitors 21 years of age and under.
- The W. Ross Macdonald Trophy is open to competitors performing at the Associate level. Pieces must be from the current Conservatory Syllabus. To be eligible for this trophy, competitors MUST perform in at least THREE solo classes.
- The Markwell J. Perry Trophy is open to competitors performing at Level 10. Pieces must be from the current Conservatory Syllabus. To be eligible for this trophy, competitors MUST perform in at least THREE solo classes.
- Winners of the W. Ross Macdonald and Markwell J. Perry Trophies are eligible for the Overall Festival Award – The Richard and Virginia Blaha Memorial Silver Tray.
Trophy finals will take place at the Thursday Evening Competition – April 21, 2026. - To be eligible to participate in the trophy night competition, participants must have performed in two or more classes at the previous year's festival. To be invited to trophy night this year, a performer must have participated in Brant Music Festival 2025.
- The Diana Dumlavwalla Trophy and Scholarship will be awarded to the competitor with the highest mark from from all Spanish/Hispanic Composers classes from sections P01, P02, and P11.
- Original copies of musical scores must be given to the adjudicator. In classes which do not require pieces to be memorized, the competitor(s) must also have original copies. The use of photocopies will result in adjudication only.
- All Sight Reading and Quick Study classes will be closed classes. There will be no audience allowed in these classes.
- Teachers must register their students in the Duets, Trios/Quartets classes.
- Non-Competitive classes are NOT eligible for trophies and awards. Marks will NOT be given. Music need not be memorized.
P01 W. Ross Macdonald Trophy

There will be NO AUDIENCE for Sight Reading classes. Family, friends, teachers, fellow competitors, and general public will be asked to leave the hall. They may return at the end of the class, to hear the adjudication remarks.

P19 Quick Study
Music will be sent by email 48 hours prior to the scheduled class. Quick Studies need not be memorized.
The participant will have 48 hours to prepare and learn an appropriately leveled new piece. Memorization is not required. The participant is required to learn the music as thoroughly as possible. Approach learning a quick study piece in the same manner that you would for any new piece of music.
There will be NO AUDIENCE for Quick Study classes. During quick study family, friends, teachers and general public will be asked to leave the hall. They may return at the end of the class, to hear the adjudication remarks.

P21 Trio/Quartet
Teachers must register their students' trio/quartet entries. Trios and Quartets need not be memorized. If music is used, there must be an original copy for EACH performer AMD the adjudicator. The use of photocopies will result in adjudication only.
P22 Own Composition
Students will perform by memory a piece that they have composed. A hard copy of the score (either hand-written or computer printed) must be provided to the adjudicator.
P23 Accompanying
Students will perform a piece of their choice with a soloist (vocal or instrumental.) Students are to provide their own soloist. Only the accompanist will be adjudicated.
P24 Non-Competitive Mentor Duet
These duet classes are for students and their mentors or teachers. Participants are to be accompanied by their teachers/mentors.
This is a non-competitive class. Participants will receive adjudication comments and certificates of participation. No marks, placement levels, or Provincial recommendations are given for non-competitive classes.
P25 Non-Competitive Piano Solo
This is a non-competitive class. Participants will receive adjudication comments and certificates of participation. No marks, placement levels, or Provincial recommendations are given for non-competitive classes.
P26 Non-Competitive Adult Solo
These classes are open to adult amateur students over the age of 21.
